The Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission have filed a lawsuit against TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, accusing them of collecting and retaining personal information about millions of children under 13. The complaint highlights that TikTok allowed children to create accounts, share videos, and interact with adults without proper parental consent, violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Despite previous court orders, TikTok allegedly failed to delete children's data upon parental request. TikTok denies the allegations, stating they have implemented stringent safeguards and age-appropriate experiences to protect minors.
